Positive Living Fraser Valley - Job Posting for Executive Director

A Little Background

Though the origin of HIV/AIDS has been traced back as far as 1930, the first case of AIDS in Canada was diagnosed in 1982. Since then HIV/AIDS has touched the lives and communities of thousands upon thousands of Canadians. While once an epidemic mostly confined to a well-defined sub-section of the population, the face of HIV/AIDS has changed dramatically over the past quarter century.

Anyone can be infected by HIV, but the HIV epidemic in Canada has split into several different epidemics affecting specific populations: men who have sex with men (MSM/Gay Men), injecting drug users, women, Aboriginal peoples, prison inmates, and people from countries where HIV is endemic. Risky behaviours among young Canadians also indicate significant potential for HIV transmission. One look at the population make-up of the Fraser Valley should make it abundantly clear of the need to address HIV… and that is what PLFV is here to do.

Past Events

Past-President of the International AIDS Society, Dr. Julio Montaner, Addressed Growing Concerns about HIV Prevention and Treatment in the Fraser Valley - March 16, 2011

Presented at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (adjacent to Abbotsford City Hall) from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. PLFV was pleased to invite Past-President of the International AIDS Society and current Director of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, Dr. Julio Montaner, to speak, along with Ms. Irene Day, Director of Operations at BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS.

Nearly 100 community members attended this unique opportunity to hear from a true pioneer of medicine, who has not only been involved in world-changing work, but who continues to lead the way into the future (Read the New York Times article from earlier this month: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/08/health/08vancouver.html).

Please see the press release for more details.

You can also now download or play the audio from Dr. Montaner's presentation by clicking or right-clicking and saving here.
